How do I select a contractor?
Choosing the right contractor for your new home, addition or remodel is the first step in ensuring a good end result. The Oregon Construction Contractor's Board provides information on choosing the right contractor in their "16 Ways" Brochure (See link below). You may also check the status of any Oregon contractor's license by clicking on the CCB Home Page Link to the left.
Once you have, go to our Member Directory tab to conduct a search of quality, potential contractors in and around Central Oregon.

How do I get my contractor's license in Oregon?
To get a contractor's license in Oregon, you must obtain a security bond and liability insurance, take 16 hours of required education and pass a State Test. You may wish to check out the CCB's information on obtaining a license by clicking on the "How to get licensed with the CCB" link below.
COBA provides the education in the format described below:
HOME STUDY COURSE INCLUDES:
1) Oregon Study Manual which includes the following topics: CCB, taxes, recordkeeping, business practices, job site safety, OR-OSHA requirements, building codes, environmental laws, project management, time management, scheduling, estimating, employer requirements and employee rights, contract law and lien law. NOTE: Oregon statute requires these to be business and law, not trade-related courses.
2) Sample Exam & Answer Book
3) Oregon Revised Statutes
4) Oregon Administrative Rules
5) Oregon CCB License Application
6) Oregon CCB Candidate Information Bulletin (instructions on taking the exam)
10) Post-Exam Evaluation Form
11) A 16-hour Home Study Log

STATE TEST
Cost: $106.00 Note: We do not take payment for, schedule, or administer the test. The 2-hour computer test is administered by PSI Examination Services at one of six locations throughout Oregon, including Bend.

I have a problem with a contractor. What should I do?
COBA does not act as a mediator, nor do we provide legal advice. Your best bet is to call your attorney and/or you can contact the Oregon Construction Contractors Board for assistance.
